One of the outcomes from the workshop, a creation by Dorthe Nickel and James Hutchins.

Facing some data to crunch,

they followed an intelligent hunch.

Using a clever equation,

modeling and animation,

Job done! and they all went for lunch.

Those attending the Gene Jamm on Friday afternoon came up with some fantastic visuals around the ideas of Epigenetics and Systems Biology and where the two might overlap.  Here are some photos from the event.  Images have been scanned and a future art work will be created by Paul. Well done to all!

A wonderful evening!

Trials for animations of Waddington’s epigenetic landscape. One idea is to develop an on-line game of some sort based around Waddingtons metaphor for the Epigenetic landscape.

The Medici Fountain is found in the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris.  This was suggested by Prof. Orjan Wrange from the Karolinska Institute to illustrate the marriage between Epigenetics and Systems Biology.  Many thanks!

If attending the Art & Science Workshop on Friday, please bring your laptops!  If you don’t have one don’t worry.

Welcome delegates of the 1st Annual Epigenesys Meeting in Vienna – moving epigenetics towards systems biology! We invite you to submit your scientific images, texts, thoughts, questions etc. to Dr. Paul Harrison and Dr. Mhairi Towler, who have set up a desk outside the conference venue in the IMBA lobby. Alternatively you can submit information via e-mail – genejamm01@yahoo.com. We would like to begin collecting information and material towards developing public artwork and interactions which will be discussed at the workshop on Friday.  Please stop by and have a chat.
